Cultural openness

In contrast with Scandinavian or Italian design, French design has developed a less immediately identifiable signature, no doubt thanks to its continual openness to the world. France is not only rich in the talents it attracts (the Kolorado armchair by Mark Robson for Sifas) but in its designers who are regularly solicited by foreign manufacturers such as the collaboration between the Swiss company Vitra and the Bouroullec brothers (Slow Chair) or the Swedish manufacturer Wastberg and Inga Sempé (Sempé W103). India Mahdavi, the Parisian designer, imagined the Bishop stool inspired by Iranian chess games that we can find today in the world’s most beautiful homes. And it is important to mention the project of bedroom specialist Gautier who asked John Thackway to photograph teenagers from 55 countries in their bedrooms.
